A General Timeline of the Modern Era


1517: Martin Luther posts his 95 thesis 

1521: The Spanish put an end to the Aztec Empire

1534: The Bible has been translated into German

1536: John Calvin publishes Institutes of the Christian Religion

1547: King Henry the eighth dies

1563: The Council of Trent which focused on Protestantism ends 

1608: Quebec City is founded

1776: America declares independence

1810: Colombia declares independence and becomes the first country Latin America to gain it

1812: The War of 1812 begins

1861: The  American Civil War begins

1867: Canada becomes a Confederation 

1876: Canada passes the Indian Act 

1914: World War one begins 

1918: World War one ends

1922: T.E Lawrence publishes The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

1925: Adolf Hitler publishes volume I of Mein Kampf 

1939: World War two begins 

1940: Winston Churchill makes his "We shall Fight Them on the Beaches" speech

1941: Japan attacks the American state of Hawaii

1945: America drops nuclear bombs on Japan killing 80,000 people--the largest destruction of human           life in one day.
          World War two ends

1947: India is granted independence by the British 

1948: The Declaration of Human Rights is signed
           Israel declares statehood 

1951: Libya becomes the first African country to gain independence

1952: C.S Lewis publishes Mere Christianity

1965: The second Vatican Council ends

1969: America puts men on the moon which leads to Science Fiction literature 

1982: The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is created

1991: The USSR ceases to exist

1998: The International Space Station is launched 

2001: America is attacked resulting in the death of nearly three thousand people

2014: ISIS begins taking over northern Iraq
