A General Timeline of the Classical Era


539 BC: The Persians invade Babylon

515 BC: The Temple is rebuilt in Jerusalem (having been destroyed 72 years prior.)

483 BC: Siddhartha Gautama dies


479 BC: Confucius dies 

380 BC: Plato writes The Republic

331 BC: The forces of Alexander conquer the Persians; thus the Greek empire succeeds the Persian                    one.

166 BC: The Maccabees rebel and establish Judea as an independent state.

63 BC: Jerusalem is conquered by the Romans

30 AD: Jesus is crucified and Resurrected; the Christian faith begins

50 AD: The Christian Jerusalem council occurs

70 AD: Jerusalem and the Temple is destroyed

132 AD: The Jews revolt for the final time before being defeated

325 AD: The council of Nicaea occurs under Emperor Constantine

426 AD: Augustine writes the book City of God


476 AD: Rome falls and the Medieval period begins
